*You're walking past the notice board, when you lay eyes on an official-looking schooldocument. You take a few steps closer and start reading it carefully from the top to the bottom.* 'Attention all Second Years! We are happy to announce that the prefect elections have officially started! Below you can find a summary of the election profile, procedure and how to apply: Leadership roles: A prefect is a student who has been given extra authority and responsibilities by the head of house and headmistress. One male and one female student are chosen from each house in their Second Year to act as prefects. They are instructed by the Head Boy/Girl. Prefects are given a badge, which they are expected to wear visible at all times. Essential criteria: • Shows the ability to make decisions for themselves (without peer pressure). • Demonstrates exemplary behaviour – acts with integrity, honesty and respect. (Not been to the headmistress or deputy for negative behaviours in the current year). • Has shown a willingness to be involved in extracurricular activities. • Displays initiative and works well as a team member. • Possesses strong communication skills. (Written / verbal, reflective listening. • Proudly wears school uniform, prepared to wear formal school uniform in leadership role. Role Description: • To provide leadership to the school body. -> Prefects are allowed to take House points away from houses, but not from other prefects. • To represent and speak publicly on behalf of the student body at school functions. -> Prefects can give detentions as a form of punishment. • To represent the school at community functions. -> Prefects patrol hallways to ensure that other students are not breaking curfew. -> Prefects show First Years the way to their dormitories on the first day of school. Procedure: 1. Each Year Two student is given a nomination form. They are free to nominate theirselves or a fellow student for a prefect position below this document. 2. The Executive Staff will check each nominee for behavioural patterns over the past year. Repeated appearance to the Deputy Principal or Principal will negate the nomination. 3. On a specified day each of the nominees will be given the opportunity to present a speech to years 1-3. 4. Following the presentations of the speeches all students in grades 1– 3 will vote for the best boy candidates and girl candidates, marking heart comments on their speech post. Voting can be anonymous if wanted and they will be counted by the deputy headmaster. 6. Each staff member will also vote in the secret ballot. 8.
